What is SPC Flooring?

SPC stands for Stone Polymer Composite. This rigid core vinyl flooring is made from a mix of stone powder and polymers, making it the most stable, durable and waterproof luxury vinyl flooring we have available.

Our SPC luxury vinyl flooring is constructed from five distinctive layers that combine to give you an SPC vinyl floor that is sure to create an enduring style statement in any space.

All our SPC flooring products come with a pre-attached sound reduction underlay for speedy and affordable installations.

The rigid core layer combines stone and polymers for unbeatable stability and longevity, while the decor layer features natural and authentic-looking designs. Our SPC vinyl flooring is finished off with a tough wear layer topped by a protective polyurethane UV coating.

What are the benefits of SPC Flooring?

If you are looking for a low-maintenance floor that you can enjoy for many years to come, then SPC flooring is the perfect solution.

The beauty of SPC vinyl floors is that they can be easily installed thanks to their simple DIY click system. This makes SPC a great alternative to other floor coverings, such as glue down LVT and natural stone tiles.

Just like our LVT flooring range, our SPC flooring collection also offers huge benefits in terms of practicality and aesthetics.

It looks and feels like natural flooring materials, but is made from durable and stable components, which form its core and can also be installed far easier, using Uniclic locking system technology.

How do you install SPC Vinyl Flooring?

Installing SPC flooring is relatively simple in terms of clicking it together without any glue required. This makes it a more DIY-friendly option than glue down LVT flooring.

However, it is worth remembering that SPC vinyl flooring needs to be installed on a solid, smooth and level subfloor. This is where it is similar to ceramic tiles and LVT floors.

Preparation is key before installing SPC flooring. SPC vinyl flooring should be acclimatised for 24-48 hours in the room you are fitting it in. Your subfloor should also be flat, smooth, clean and dry.

SPC vinyl floors can be laid over existing fully bonded floors that meet the criteria, such as LVT, stone tiles (depending on level), chipboard panels and wood floors.

SPC Flooring FAQs

Below are some common questions and answers about SPC flooring:

SPC flooring tends to feel harder underfoot, which some might find less comfortable compared to other options.

However, you can mitigate this by installing a suitable underlay. Laminate flooring has a softer feel and might offer more comfort but lacks the water resistance and durability that SPC luxury vinyl flooring provides.

J2 SPC flooring is made using high-quality CaCO3 (Calcium Carbonate) and various polymers to create a structurally stable, high-quality rigid core click floor.

The high content of stone makes this product more akin to a natural stone floor, such as ceramic or porcelain tile.

However, the polymer element allows it to be engineered into a click-together system. This makes installing up to 8 times faster than traditional tiled floors, saving time and money.

Below is a diagram of the various layers that go into producing J2 SPC flooring:

SPC Layers

1. UV Coating

This layer is a protective polyurethane coating, it is factory applied and with regular maintenance is replenished to help protect the wear layer and keep the appearance of the flooring looking better for longer.

2. Wear Layer

This is the layer that provides the durability and guarantee length. Wear layers vary on each SPC product, but the thicker the wear layer the more durable the product. Our SPC flooring is available in two different wear layer thicknesses:

0.30mm – ZEEZOO (Plank / Herringbone & Tile)

Classed as a residential quality our 0.30mm wear layer floors are suitable for heavy domestic and light commercial.

0.50mm – CUBE

A 0.55mm wear layer is classified as general commercial quality, which means it is extra heavy domestic. Our 0.55mm wear layer SPC comes with a lifetime guarantee in residential locations.

3. Decor Layer

this is the film print, which gives the product its design feature. At J2 Flooring, we choose the most natural looking designs to ensure your floor is as authentic as possible.

4. Ultra Stable SPC Rigid Core Layer

This is the rigid core layer, which is the combination of stone and polymers formulated to give the very best and stable product.

Our products use the well known Uniclic locking system which is engineered within the core to provide a simple and DIY friendly installation method.

5. Pre-Attached Underlay

All J2 SPC flooring products come with a pre-attached sound reduction underlay. This speeds up installation and also saves money.

The underlay provided is the only underlay you should use under SPC flooring, otherwise additional compression from extra underlay can cause the product to break.

It is important to make clear upfront that SPC is a type of LVT flooring. As for which is better, it really depends on your needs.

Traditional 100% vinyl LVT is softer underfoot, suitable for areas of high temperatures, and offers a more permanent solution than SPC.

SPC is a floating floor and for that reason can be installed quickly and easily with minimal preparation. Having said that, it does require a smooth, level subfloor.

As an SPC floor is not mechanically fixed, it is slightly more prone to expansion and contraction than glue down LVT. But SPC flooring is quieter, reducing noise by up to 18dB.

Both options provide a durable, stable flooring solution you will love. The choice is yours!
