For years now, natural and warm interior styles like cottagecore and traditional farmhouse have been at the forefront of home design, offering a cosy space to retreat to at the end of the day. But the current trend that we can’t, and more importantly, don’t want to escape right now is the modern farmhouse aesthetic.
A modern twist on the more traditional farmhouse aesthetic, the modern farmhouse style blends traditional farmhouse decor with clean, contemporary design. It’s all about balancing rustic textures, wood tones, and natural materials with sleek, sophisticated touches. Picture open shelving, soft neutral colours, natural light, and muted accessories that bring warmth without the clutter.
Inspired by authentic wood and stone, the natural appearance and textures of our LVT flooring designs make them the perfect flooring to incorporate into your modern farmhouse scheme, whilst also providing easy maintenance and durability against the hustle and bustle of family life.
To achieve the modern farmhouse feel, opt for a wood effect in light to medium tones with a rustic grain such as Regal Timber, Carpenters Oak or Country Oak, or a worn, washed look such as Lime Washed Timber. This adds texture and warmth, forming the perfect backdrop for layering your furniture and decor. For a softer, cleaner base, a more subtle grain like Naked Oak works just as well.
Straight laid planks are the typical choice for this type of scheme, however you can also experiment with a large parquet design for an elevated aesthetic or to create the illusion of more space.
If stone is more your style, natural stone effects like Cotton Stone or Earth Limestone maintain the organic, earthy feel of the modern farmhouse. For a bolder look our Cumbrian Slate, offers a slightly darker, moodier palette while still forming that connection to nature.
Whilst straight laid and large parquet planks are most typical when it comes to wood flooring in the modern farmhouse aesthetic, we don’t see any reason to be restricted to what’s typical. For a timeless twist, explore alternative patterns like small herringbone, chevron, weave or even panel designs. These patterns introduce a sense of elegance to what is otherwise a raw and rustic aesthetic, and give you the opportunity to bring originality to your space, making it unique to your individual style.
