Blue Interiors: The Colour of Calm
We all crave serenity and calm at the end of a busy day, and nothing gives you that sigh of relief quite like coming home,…
As the temperatures drop, our homes become our retreat from the cold. And let’s be honest, the British winter can feel long! But instead of dreading the darker months, why not embrace them? Transitioning your style for the season can shift how you feel about winter, making it a season to enjoy rather than one to dread.
Here are a few tips to bring all the cosy, comforting vibes into your space.
Colour can completely change how a space feels. Consider incorporating deeper, richer tones for an instant injection of warmth and intimacy. You can go all out with painted walls, or for a more temporary seasonal switch up, swap out accessories and artwork for moodier alternatives. Consider cosy and comforting tones with a contemporary twist such as deep brown, burnt orange, burgundy and plum purple.
Take @rachelslovelyhome, who swapped out her usual cool grey palette for burnt orange accessories bringing an instant injection of warmth to the space. The look is complemented by our Fumed Oak Light LVT, the perfect transitional flooring that bridges cooler to warmer tones effortlessly. This is a great example of how even subtle changes can transform the mood of a room.

Just as we reach for additional layers to stay warm over the winter period, we want to do the same with our interiors. Go big with blankets, soft throws, tactile cushions, cosy rugs and organic textures – wood always helps a space feel more inviting. The key is choosing fabrics and materials with different tones, qualities, and characteristics. This breaks up expansive, hard surfaces and avoids a flat, uniform look. Instead you get a lived-in feel, that is impossible not to curl up in.
@rebecca_riley_home is a great example of how to create a cosy vibe with layers. Maintaining a neutral palette, her Pale Oak Herringbone LVT flooring provides the perfect base – warm in tone, and perfect for layering with rug and seasonal accessories like woven baskets, blankets and candles.

Let’s not underestimate the power of lighting. Soft ambient lighting such as table lamps, floor lamps, candles and even the flicker of firelight create a warm and inviting glow perfect for evenings in.

The glow of soft lighting enhances the textures throughout a space, making the entire room feel richer. From the fabrics and furnishings to walls and the floors, the finer details are brought to life – particularly when using natural materials like wood. Take our Naked Oak Basket Weave LVT for example, under firelight the grain and intricate details are beautifully highlighted adding depth and a comfortable warmth to the space. Layer lighting for the ultimate ambiance eg. Here @ourjacksonreno’s seasonal styling is layered with candles and floor lamps, and features our Carpenters Oak Herringbone LVT flooring.

Nothing stops a home from feeling cosy like cold, hard surfaces. That’s why comfort matters just as much as how your space looks, especially underfoot comfort. LVT flooring is a great option when it comes to creating a warm and welcoming space. It’s soft underfoot, easy to care for and retains heat well too.
Pair it with underfloor heating for that extra touch of luxury, or add rugs to your space for texture comfort and zoning, adding to that cosy layered look.

Don’t shy away from seasonal decor – it’s the details that make a house feel loved, but the trick is to keep it simple. A few carefully selected accessories can make your space feel homely and festive as the seasons roll by, without making it feel cluttered.
@thelopezhome demonstrates this beautifully in her multifunctional spare room where she regularly refreshes the space with seasonal touches for a cosy and lived-in feeling, featured here alongside our Beached Ash SPC flooring.

We’ve talked about how to make your space look cosy for winter, but smell plays a huge role too. Think of the old freshly baked cookies in the oven trick used by estate agents – a home immediately feels more welcome when filled with a lovely smell.
Scented candles and diffusers are a simple way to keep your home filled with a comforting and consistent fragrance. Opt for sweet scents like vanilla or fig for a light homely feel or cedarwood or cinnamon for something a little richer.
Creating cosy is about turning your home into a space that you genuinely love being in. A space that invites you to slow down to enjoy the simple pleasures – the quiet mornings with your coffee and evenings curled up watching your favourite show. Every detail contributes to that feeling of warmth, comfort and relaxation, including your floors.
