After the exciting purchase of their first home together, a fixer upper in South Yorkshire, Nikki and Dan @ourjacksonreno set to work bringing their dream home to life, turning to social media to document the process. Stripping it right back to a shell, they worked tirelessly to transform the potential filled house they purchased into a warm and welcoming home packed with character. j2 Flooring herringbone LVT flooring was a key element in creating the space they envisioned.

The design vision was simple. A transitional space that embraces natural textures, and thoughtfully blends the old and the new in a way that feels personal and lived-in. Nikki and Dan also wanted to ensure the space would stand the test of time. For the core elements of their home, like the kitchen and flooring, the ones that wouldn’t be easily or frequently replaced, they selected quality finishes that would evolve effortlessly with their style over the years.
Nikki and Dan opted for NTP43 – Carpenters Oak LVT flooring across their living room, dining area, and kitchen to create a seamless flow and sense of cohesion. For the walls they opted for warm beiges and sage greens, along with oak doors, all working together for a cosy and calming aesthetic.

They were drawn to Carpenters Oak LVT flooring for its natural warmth and texture, and knew the large herringbone laying pattern would add an extra layer of detail and dimension, without feeling too busy. Nikki commented ‘We loved the classic elegance of herringbone, and Carpenters Oak had the perfect tone – warm, rustic, and timeless. It’s the kind of floor that complements any decor, whether modern or traditional’.
It was also important to Nikki and Dan that their flooring choice was comfortable, durable, and easy to clean, especially with regular visits from their excitable family dogs, Luna and Lilly. They needed something that could handle playtime without the worry of damage, and muddy paw prints needed to be easy to clean. ‘j2 flooring felt like the perfect balance of practicality and style’ Nikki and Dan were thrilled with the results, ‘our flooring going down was such a wow moment in the renovation. It completely transformed the space – in fact, it is usually the first thing people comment on when they visit our home. It really ties the living areas together and makes everything feel brighter and more considered’

Whilst incredibly proud of the home they have created, they faced their fair share of challenges along the way. Coordinating trades and juggling timelines proved tricky at times however they found remaining calm and flexible was key to overcoming this. When asked their best advice to first time renovators, Nikki commented ‘Plan as much as you can, but be prepared for things to change. Budget for the unexpected, and take your time with the big decisions. The best part is seeing everything come together; the worst is probably the stress and disruption along the way – but it’s worth it’. Some of the bigger design decisions, like choosing the right flooring, felt overwhelming at times. However our room visualiser and samples service helped make them feel secure in their choice. ‘The samples allowed us to see the true colour and texture in our own lighting, which made a big difference. The room visualiser was great for helping us picture how the herringbone would look in our space’
Sharing their renovation journey on Instagram has been a huge part of their experience. Reflecting on this, Nikki commented ‘The best part has been connecting with others and being able to look back at how far we’ve come’ but with the benefits came challenges, and it wasn’t always easy to stay consistent with posting, especially when the house felt chaotic or incomplete. Their advice for others looking to grow their renovation account online? Show the process and not just the end result. ‘We found our audience loved to see the real side of renovations’.
