LVT Flooring Laying Patterns for the Modern Home

When it comes to LVT flooring, intricate laying patterns are often associated with more traditional homes, reminiscent of an earlier era. However they can be equally at home in modern settings, offering a creative way to add interest into your interior.

From plank and large parquet to basket weave and bloc, here are some stunning laying patterns that lend themselves beautifully to fresh and contemporary spaces.

Plank

Simple, not boring. Straight lay plank patterns are perfect for modern homes and bring a clean, minimalistic look. The classic format is also a great option for open plan spaces, popular in modern homes. For a cohesive feel and an enhanced sense of space and calm, opt for neutral tones that complement your wider interior scheme.

Large Herringbone

Whilst herringbone flooring may have traditional roots, it’s had a serious come back in recent years and the new take is far from traditional. Think oversized planks, soft tones and subtle yet authentic wood textures. When laid with modern styling in mind, herringbone brings movement and depth, without being too overwhelming.

Chevron

With its clean angles and directional pattern, chevron flooring is a sharper, more structured alternative to herringbone flooring. Again, opt for soft tones and combine with modern styling for a look that’s clean, contemporary and serene.

Basket Weave

Basket Weave flooring is a traditional feature flooring full of visual interest and texture, however when paired with the right styling, it can be incredibly effective in more modern schemes too.

Due to the bold and intricate design it lends itself to smaller spaces like hallways or it can be used as a zoning element in an open plan area. Keep it modern with complementary tones that will seamlessly blend the flooring into your wider scheme.

Renaissance

Inspired by classic parquet flooring, the renaissance pattern is also a detailed and decorative option, but again, paired with contemporary finishes, it can beautifully elevate any modern scheme.

Use in small, defined areas to create a sense of bold luxury or alternatively use it in neutral shade across a larger space with modern styling. Finish with a feature strip around the border for an extra contemporary touch.

Bloc

This bold, geometric layout adds instant impact to any modern space and is ideally used individually in a smaller room like home offices or hallways. Alternatively use alongside a classic plank laying pattern as a zoning element within an open plan layout, or to create flow throughout the home.

There’s really no right or wrong answer when it comes to LVT flooring laying patterns for your modern home, even traditional inspired patterns can feel modern if the rest of your styling is contemporary.

Think clean-lined furniture, neutral tones, natural materials and statement lighting, and feel free to mix laying patterns, if that works for your space. Let your flooring set the tone, then build up the space around it. Ultimately, it’s about curating your home in a way that you love.
